Great Horned Owl Personal Encounter

While attending college I lived with my parents outside of Cheney. About the end of February, beginning of March, we heard hooting from an owl and shortly thereafter noticed an owl nesting in a tree approximately 60 feet from the house.
On March 23 we noticed two white heads popping out of the nest. We realized we had a mom owl with babies, and soon thereafter noticed a smaller adult owl nearby. We concluded the other adult must be the dad owl.
We watched these owls grow, and photographed as much of the process as possible.
In April the property next to my parents sold and the new owners were going to build a home. The survey showed that the tree was on the new owner's property. We were very concerned that the new owners might cut down the tree the owls had nested in. We began researching the possibilities of the tree being cut down.
Hence, a lesson grew for the students to research the Great Horned Owl.
I am very passionate about the lessons learned within this project.
Explore and Enjoy!
